black depression unhappy

Rest your voice to prevent exerting the larynx and worsening hoarseness of the voice.

1. Warm saline gargle- Gargling with a pinch of salt in a glass of luke warm water 3-4 times daily helps increase the blood flow to the pharyngeal region, thereby washing away the infection and also reducing the edema associated with the infection. It also loosens the mucus, which can be expelled easily.

2. Drink plenty of warm liquids - Tea, lemon tea, ginger-lemon tea, soups, cinnamon tea, warm orange juice with lemon drops, honey + lemon juice + crushed ginger in warm water etc. These are common home remedies that are very helpful in relieving a sore throat.

3. Soft diet - Steamed /microwaved apple, mashed with honey acts as a throat soothener and it is easy to swallow without hurting the throat.

4. Steam inhalation – With a steamer / hot shower.

5. Throat sootheners - Cough lozenges, menthol / eucalyptus oil lozenges, honey + lemon. These help by soothing the throat and menthol also causes temporary numbness to the ailing throat. They also increase saliva secretion, thereby preventing dryness of the throat.

6. Local heat - Apply a heating pad to the throat region or wrap your neck with hot air dried warm cloth / towel. This will provide relief to the ailing throat.

7. Analgesics Antipyretics - Over the counter analgesics (NSAIDS) can be taken safely if the sufferer does not have any allergy to these medications. These medications give immediate pain relief and also bring down the malaise and fever.

Avoid:

Smoking
Cold drinks
Oily and fried food items
Spicy food
Exercising

They cause harm to the infected throat by drying, irritating, dehydrating the already inflamed mucosa and should be avoided.

Avoid going to public places lest you become the source of infection to other people. Also, avoid flying as the infection can spread to the ears and cause a middle ear infection. Take adequate rest for the body to heal better.

Rest your voice to prevent exerting the larynx and worsening hoarseness of the voice.

Seek medical attention if there is:
Throat pain lasting more than a couple of days.
Very severe pain with chills, fever and body ache.
Pain in the laryngeal region and voice change.
Pain in the ears and blocking sensation in the ears.

Neck swelling.

Purulent cough.

Swollen tonsils.

Breathlessness with chest congestion and pain.

Microsoft Shuts Window XP

Microsoft has announced that it would shut down support for its 11-year old Windows XP operating system widely used in personal computers and laptops over security concerns.

Ahead of the planned shut down, Microsoft Acting Country Manager for Nigeria, Mrs Awawu Olumide-Sojirin told journalists in Lagos that the company will stop sending updates and assisted support to Windows XP by April, 2014.

She said the measure was taken to protect users of the application from fraudsters and hackers who have found ways to make window-XP vulnerable.

Awawu noted that Microsoft have since launched window 8, to replace window -XP and urged users to switch to the latest window to avoid security issues.

She said: "Microsoft primary focus is to ensure users are protected and Windows 8 is thus capable of providing better security against malware. It contains a Defender; a full-featured anti-virus solution included in every edition of the operating system.

"That is why we are encouraging companies to upgrade to Windows 8. The reasons are obvious: security till today and in future remains a high priority investment area and with it we have enabled a broad range of new capabilities that address the top security needs and threats that they are facing today".

Also speaking about the development, Mr. Oluyomi Alarape, datacenter solutions Specialist, Microsoft Anglophone West Africa, said Microsoft is ending support for XP because "technology has dramatically changed."

He noted that the expiration of support for Windows XP is expedient due to the fact that there has been evolution in technology, maintaining that business and personal technology has dramatically changed over the last decade.

"While XP was one of the most popular operating systems in Microsoft's history, it was not designed to handle the challenges of today, such as the increased exposure to cyber-attacks and demands for more data privacy, unlike our newer operating systems such as Windows 7 and 8," he said.

He explained that, apparently, the security risk is the most concerning for customers as there are more sophisticated forms of attack which can impact safety of personal information and the hidden costs associated with support and business continuity.

"An 11-year-old operating system can no longer address today's business and technology needs nor security threats," he said.

He hinted that the sharp increase of "hacktivism" and pirated software in 2012 formed part of reasons consumers should upgrade from XP to the latest operating systems such as Windows 7 or 8.

How To Save Your Relationship & Marriage from Divorce & Stay Together Forever

Chinyere Ukoha (real name withheld), looked forward to getting married after undergoing the compulsory one year national youth service programme three years ago. Eventually, she met a young man who took her to the altar and eleven months into the marriage, she had a baby girl.

But for inexplicable reason, the relationship between the once happy couple turned sour just four months after the arrival of the baby. One thing led to another, and before one could say 'Jack Robinson,' the marriage had broken down irretrievably.
It is trite to say we live in an era of marriages collapsing like a pack of cards. What can today's couples do to make their unions last till death do them part? Kalu Igwe Kalu, a marriage counsellor, gives some tips.
In our society today, there are several young women in the mould of Chinyere. Our customary courts today have registers filled with applications for dissolution of marriages that have hit the rocks. And although there are no realiable statistics on the phenomenon, the courts have dissolve quite a number of frosty marriages in recent times.

What could be the reason for the increasing number of broken marriages in the country today? At a recent forum in Lagos, lawyers olinked rising divorce cases to intolerance, infidelity and wife battering.

Regardless, marriage is viewed in several climes and cultures as a sacred institution that must be kept intact irrespective of the problems arising from the relationship between couples.

Indeed, there is a groundswell of opinion that the rising cases of armed robbery, prostitution and other social vices in the country are partly due to the increasing number of broken marriages, since children from such homes are subjected to inadequate parental care.

And, apparently to stem the tide of broken marriages, KaluIgwe Kalu, a marriage counsellor, writer, public speaker, and economist, recently organised a seminar with the theme, 'Marriage is Beautiful Couples Banquet' in Aba, Abia State.

The seminar dwelt on steps to make marriages enjoyable and successful. Kalu described marriage as "beautiful" as well as "a gift from God," noting that a beautiful marriage is not achieved in one fell swoop. Rather, it takes a gradual process.

He said during the early stages of marriage, the husband and wife are attracted to each other, but submitted that with the passage of time, the bond that holds the couple together may start waning.

"This is when marriages begin to come under severe attacks, and if care is not taken disintegration sets in", he said.

Nevertheless, Kalu stressed that marriages could be sustained as long as the couples are physically attached to one another.

His words: "Couples should always develop the habit of touching each other… studies have shown that couples that touch themselves more frequently do better than those who do not''.

He counselled couples to see their bodies as joint possessions, and to always give love and gifts to one another.

He said: "Marriage is where you give and not just receive ….start the giving and your spouse will reciprocate. As you give, you begin to receive. "Whatever you give your wife is what you get from her. If you give her love, she will submit to you.

"You should date your wife as you did before you got married to her. This will bring freshness reminiscent of those days of courtship... Also, take her out to a nice eatery you can afford or on a picnic for a two-hour talk. Get engaged in discussions and you will be surprised how both of you would be flowing.

"Spouses must recognise and appreciate each other, which may involve discovering and developing common interests and values, finding perspectives, creating shared expectations and life time smart goals as conflicting values, standards, morals and ethics may not allow the beauty of marriage to manifest.

"In situations where there are conflicts, you just need to work on your differences and arrive at a compromise. Either of you have the right not to agree on everything, but you have to feel safe to be yourself - holding on to your own values and ideals without threat"

Kalu advised couples to come to a level in their martial life where they will have common interests as well as know each other's tastes in music, clothing, food, art and many other issues of life.

The marriage counsellor stated: "It is possible to come to this level of marital beauty as it is absolutely an awesome experience… Appreciation in marriage is a beautiful lifestyle of holding one's spouse in high esteem. It is necessary to understand what your partner enjoys; the type of stories he or she likes. What is it that he or she enjoys that you don't?

"What is his or her attitude to sex? Does he or she enjoy long foreplay, adventure and sensual love-making? The ability of one to answer these questions will help in the showing of appreciation in marriage."

He stated that the ability of a man to tell his wife that "you are beautiful", has the potency of making marriage beautiful. "It is one word one says that makes a whole world of difference in a woman's world", said Kalu.

According to him, "husband and wife who see and appreciate each other's beauty; couples who don't just internalise their appreciation of each other's beauty but voice it out experience the beauty in marriage more.

"Another thing that makes marriage beautiful is the ability to say sorry. There is nobody that does not make mistakes. When we wrong our partners, saying 'sorry' can open up the room for conversation that will eventually lead to a resolution. In a beautiful marriage, no spouse waits for the other to be the first to say 'I am sorry'. A beautiful marriage is a place for givers and forgivers.

"Express your love verbally to your wife. I love you is a statement you cannot say enough to your spouse. Women especially, never get bored hearing 'I love you' from their spouse as if it is a creed in marriage. "Love your wife man, love your husband woman. When you say I love you, you should mean it."

Kalu described sexual connection as an important ingredient of a beautiful marriage. However, he regretted that most couples have remained extremely conservative, making it difficult to discuss sexual matters, even where it affects their personal sexual enjoyment.

According to the marriage counsellor, the seminar will be held in Aba on a monthly basis, and would be mounted in Abuja in September.

The Dos and Don'ts of Fashion as a Christian

The responsibility on Christians is not just for the relaying the gospel to the world in need of it, it also has to d with our representation of God the author and the finisher of the good news.

Ken Franklin in an interview in one of his visits to  nigeria in the past stated that our problem as christians is in not representing enough. A cue from Christ's earthly is in how consistently represent te father in all he did.
In this age of liberty without boundary, it is important to know that Christianity is more than a religion but a way of life that holistically represents God.

Valerie G. Lowe in the article "The Dos and Don'ts of Fashion as a Christian" advised that "you don't have to take your style cues from the world or legalistic saints". She gave the following tips as help to believers in defining the boundary of their fashion sense:

DO: Wear fashionable, modest clothing. The Bible doesn't say you have to look like a prude.

DON'T: Wear form-fitting, tight clothes. By doing so you cause others to take their eyes off God to look at you.

DO: Wear clothes that complement your body type. Look for clothing stores that carry styles with your figure in mind.

DON'T: Expose flesh that should be reserved for your mate's eyes only. This means covering cleavage so you aren't tempting someone of the opposite sex. Don't let your underwear peek out of pants or tops.

DO: Wear clothes that represent your God-given sense of personal style.

DON'T: Let people convince you that it's wrong to wear certain colors. Remember, God made the rainbow!

DO: Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you select clothing that honors Him.

DON'T: Allow a church's or denomination's set of legalistic, unbiblical rules (such as "no pants" or "no short hair") create an atmosphere of spiritual bondage for you.

I love these and sincerely believe that it will help many who are confused to align their fashion sense with Christian obligation of representing God. May His name not be blasphemed in the world because of you.

Why You Don’t Have to Suffer From Chronic Fatigue

Chronic fatigue syndrome and its painful cousin fibromyalgia are commonly misdiagnosed—or worse, dismissed—by mainstream doctors. Some 80 percent of the millions of people with these two conditions have been told by doctors, "It's all in your head."

Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, author of a new book, The Fatigue and Fibromyalgia Solution, says this should never happen.

"These represent the worst form of the human energy crisis," Dr. Teitelbaum says of the conditions.

Feeling exhausted but being unable to sleep is their "hallmark," he tells Newsmax Health. Brain fog and widespread pain also are symptoms. The pain comes from having too little energy, which causes muscles to lock in a shortened position, making you hurt all over.

For most sufferers, the conditions are the same illness, but some people experience fatigue without pain, while others have pain but not fatigue.

Health problems and deficiencies can trigger fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome by exposing the hypothalamus, the part of the brain that produces hormones and regulates bodily systems, to long-term physical and emotional stress. The body, in a sense, "blows a fuse," Teitelbaum says.

"What's going on is an energy crisis, so anything that causes you to spend more energy than you're able to make—whether it happens to be hormonal problems, nutritional deficiencies, infections, chronic stress, autoimmune diseases like lupus, basically anything that drains your energy account—can cause you to blow that circuit breaker," he says. "And then once that happens, you can't sleep, and you're on that slippery slope going downhill."

Unfortunately, mainstream medicine has not taken fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome seriously, which historically has been a typical reaction to diseases affecting mainly women, he notes.

"We've seen this over and over in illnesses that affect women, and especially if there's no good blood test for it," he says. "And we saw the same thing with rheumatoid arthritis, lupus—women used to be considered neurotic—multiple sclerosis, which was called hysterical paralysis. All these are illnesses of the immune system that affect women. And until they had a test for it, the doctor said, 'I don't know what's wrong with you, so you're crazy.' It's really a nasty thing to do to people. But we're seeing it now with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome."

The good news is that fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome are highly treatable conditions, Teitelbaum says. Following a protocol known as SHINE—sleep, hormones, immunity, nutrition and exercise—people can improve their quality of life and feel better. The treatment calls for optimal sleep, addressing hormonal deficiencies, detecting and treating underlying infections, achieving proper nutritional balance and exercising as much as you're able.

"I know what people live through with this," Teitelbaum says. "I had chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia back in 1975. It knocked me out of med school for a year. That's how I learned about it. We've treated thousands of people. This is a very, very treatable disease."

Churches closure: PFN, others ask President Biya to reverse order

Christian leaders in Nigeria have joined their Cameroonian counterparts to condemn the recent clampdown on Pentecostal churches in Cameroun.

President Paul Biya had ordered the closure of 50 churches, many of which originated from Nigeria.

Pastors in Bamenda and Douala had on Wednesday marched against the government's order.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Lagos chapter, Apostle Alex Bamgbola, asked Biya to reverse the order or face God's wrath.

He said closing the churches down was tantamount to closing his life and career if he failed to reverse the order.

Bamgbola said, "Since I read about the development in the dailies, I have been praying for Biya. I ask him to reverse the order or be ready to face the anger of God.

"Quote me, Biya cannot get away with this just like the biblical King Nebuchadnezzar."

A former General Overseer, Foursquare Gospel Church, Nigeria, Rev. Wilson Badejo, said since the churches were formally registered to operate, Biya should have gone through the proper channel to correct whatever wrong he had noticed.

Badejo said, "It is wrong for him to summarily order the closure of churches. That is the spiritual heartbeat of the country. They are harmless institutions. I call on him to reverse the order."

Badejo said the Christian community in the country should have a dialogue with Biya before taking any action against him.

Corroborating his view, the founder of Evangelical Ministries, Bishop Stephen Ogedengbe, said Biya was heading towards wrath by closing down the house of God.

He said except he reversed the action, he should prepare for the implication of his action.

"We are seeing the manifestations of the end times. African leaders are playing God. Biya should not only look at the negative incident he referred to for shutting the churches, what about the many good things that people have benefitted from the churches?

"I just want him to know that this will not stand. Churches in Nigeria are already praying against the move," he said.

Biya had declared the Pentecostal churches as illegal and posing security threats.

He cited the collapse and death of a nine-year-old girl during a prayer session in a Pentecostal church in Bamenda as a further reason for his action.

Pastor Refuses To Marry This Lady With Her Man Because Of Her Exposed Boobs [feedly]

It gladdens my heart to know that it's not only OluFamous.Com that is complaining about the increasing rate of indecent dressing among ladies these days. Funny enough, this woman took her wild dress sense to church recently for her wedding but she was cut to size by a no-nonsense Pastor.

Below is how the sexy-wedding-dress saga unfolded between she and the Pastor in church:
Source: AmericaPreachers.com.

Apostle Michael Canty of the Truth Ministries Holiness Church recently angered an entire wedding party and might have damaged his new ministry's reputation after he refused to allow a bride wed her husband on her wedding day because he felt her dress was too sexy.

Lisa Washington said 'I've never been more embarrassed than Saturday' when the pastor refused to officiate and allow the bride to wed her husband on her wedding day in his facility. Both families were present and the food was waiting to be served at the bride's aunt house.

Family members flew and drove long distances to be present for the couples wedding. Upset and frustrated, guest at the wedding practically 'begged' the leaders of the church to reconsider but to no avail, not a budge.

The wedding slated for Saturday, August 10th, was scheduled for 3pm. At 2pm, the pastor greeted the bride and groom when he noticed the bride's dress. According to the bride's mother, the pastor jokingly asked 'where is the other half of the dress?'

Not thinking anything of it, the family laughed it off and continued applying make-up to the bride. Around 2:30pm the pastor asked a leader of the church to ask the bride and the family about the other part of her dress. The bride informed the leader 'this is it'. The leader reported the news to the pastor and then the pastor informed face-to-face the bride and groom at separate times he could not perform the wedding with the bride in her selected [very skimpy] dress.

The pastor told the bride she would have to cover up her breast area and find a way to add length to the dress. The bride informed the pastor there is no way to accomplish this with so short notice and she has to wear her dress. The pastor let her know, he would not perform the ceremony then walked back to his office.

The wedding party tried many times to change the pastor's decision but their efforts was ineffective. Around 4:15pm guest at the wedding were growing impatience and were looking for answers for the delay. When they were told the reason for the delay around 4:35pm their impatience change to anger and disbelief.

After hearing how the bride was crying her eyes out in the back, a minister who was a guest at the wedding offered to perform the ceremony. The minister asked the pastor for permission to perform the ceremony, the pastor told him 'no' and expressed to him how his request was disrespectful.

AmericaPreachers.com asked the bride and groom for pictures of the dress but instead was sent an email with a link of the exact dress worn by a professional model from the companies website. The bride further said that: 'there were small alterations made to the dress to fit more desirably to my vision.'

She added: "I'm a unique person, I chose this dress because it's different than the traditional wedding gown you see at every wedding" the bride said.

Two days later the couple is not married and is currently looking into options to recoup money their family lost with travel, food, and other expenses.

The Truth Ministries Holiness Church was established 14 months ago and currently rent a converted shoe store for worship services. Calls to Apostle Canty and Truth Ministries were not returned. Neither the bride or groom were members of the church.

See The Bad Harbits That Causes Heart Problem

The heart is one of the most important organs in the human body, as it is responsible for pumping blood and delivering all the nutrients your body needs in order to function correctly. But some of our habits take their toll on our hearts and we do not realize this until it is too late.

Below are the core 7 bad habits that destroy people's heart:

1. Increased Alcohol Consumption
Having a drink every once in a while will not have a major impact on your heart (especially if you consume wine, which has a series of health benefits), but if you consume alcohol regularly then you heart will suffer in the long run. In addition to the devastating effects alcohol is known to have on your liver, it can also harm your bones, affect your memory and it considerably increases the risk of heart disease along with the risk of hypertension.

Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in the US, and by quitting alcohol you can reduce the risk by up to 50% or even more. Remember that it is not the alcohol consumption itself that affects your heart, it is the abuse of alcohol that affects it in the long term.

2. Eating Too Much Salt
Food is tasteless without a pinch of salt, and that is a known fact. However, many of us overuse this ingredient, and that puts us at risk for high blood pressure. High blood pressure is a risk factor for heart attack and stroke, therefore you might want to think twice before adding extra salt to your meals!

3. Lack Of Exercise
The lack of exercise is another underlying cause of heart disease, not to mention that people who do not do regular physical exercises are more prone to develop type 2 diabetes as well. The less we exercise, the more likely we are to gain weight, and extra pounds are known to destroy the heart, slowly but surely. Besides the fact that many people get stuck in front of the TV for hours, they also have the bad habit of continuously eating snacks of all kinds.

This is a deadly combination that can trigger a series of dangerous illnesses. Exercising, on the other hand, can elevate the mood, ensure the proper functioning of your heart and brain, improve the blood flow and cell oxygenation and so on.

4. Leaving Your Depression And Anxiety Untreated
Anxiety, depression and stress can have a tremendous impact on your overall health, not to mention that they also weaken your heart. However, if these issues are addressed in real time, their effects can be minimized – on the other hand, if left untreated they lower your immunity and energy levels, they decrease your appetite and they also have an impact on your nervous system. Negative emotions affect your heart health and that is not a secret!

5. Comfort Eating
It often happens that we eat even when we are not hungry, and the main problem is that we eat unhealthy foods: sugary products, high-fat products and foods rich in salt are some of our most common choices in terms of food. In addition to making us fat, comfort eating is a major risk for heart disease.

As a matter of fact, approximately three out of four men in the US are overweight while two women out of three have several extra pounds. If you know to be overweight, the answer is very simple: avoid over-sizing your food portions, lower your sugar intake, increase your water intake and avoid fast food and fried foods.

6. Smoking
Smoking is a silent killer, but even if we are all well-aware of the side effects of tobacco cigarettes, there still are tens of millions of smokers worldwide. As statistics reveal, smoking is responsible for approximately 30% of the deaths related to heart disease – not to mention that it is also a high risk factor for certain types of cancer like mouth, throat or lung cancer.

7. Lack Of Sleep
Lack of sleep can lead to what is known as sleep deprivation. In turn, sleep deprivation leads to hormonal imbalances, which not only make you eat more but also have an impact on your heart. The stress hormone levels are also increased by the lack of sleep, and the side effects of stress have been detailed above. For a healthy heart, adults should get around 7-8 hours of sleep per night.

black-woman-sleeping

The adult person needs between 7 and 8 hours of sleep per night, on average. However, many of us have trouble falling asleep, and insomnia affects millions of people worldwide.

The health issues associated with insomnia and sleep deprivation are many, from a dysfunctional immune system to premature aging, weight gain and increased risk for heart disease.

Fortunately, you can improve your night's sleep without resorting to dangerous pills or supplements, as the secret lies in your diet.

Here you will find 7 foods for better sleep at night:

1. OatmealTop 7 Foods For Better Sleep At Night

Oatmeal is a great snack before bed, as it is very rich in carbohydrates. As a matter of fact, oatmeal can be considered a win-win situation: they not only stimulate the natural production of serotonin (a neurotransmitter that elevates mood and makes you feel happy), but they are also a slower digesting food that will keep you full throughout the night. One of the reasons of poor night's sleep is waking up in the middle of the night for a trip to the fridge and back – this will not be the case if you consume a medium-sized bowl of oatmeal before bed!

2. Chickpeas

Few people know that chickpeas are delicious and they contain high amounts of Vitamin B6, an essential vitamin for the production of melatonin. In a nutshell, melatonin is the hormone responsible with sleeping – if it is not produced in the correct amounts, you will not manage to fall asleep. Chickpeas stimulate the production of melatonin, therefore helping you fall asleep faster – and stay asleep until morning.

3. Bananas

Bananas have been used as a natural sleep inducer for decades, because just like chickpeas and oatmeal, bananas also boost the levels of serotonin and melatonin. Besides, this delicious fruit is also known to act as a natural muscle relaxant, helping you relax and get ready for bed in a natural, fast and efficient way.

4. Seeds And Nuts

Seeds and nuts have a plethora of health benefits – they not only promote a strong and healthy heart, but they are also very rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are known to elevate your mood in a natural and side effect-free manner. Besides, they are great sources of antioxidants as well. A small cup of almonds or flaxseed consumed right before bedtime will help you sleep like a baby!

5. Warm Milk And Honey

This is a great drink to consume before bed, as warm milk contains an amino-acid called tryptophan (in addition to the calcium that is highly beneficial as well) while the honey relaxes your muscles and your mind. This is a delicious and nutritious drink that acts as a natural sleeping pill.

6. Potatoes

Fried or baked, potatoes are delicious – not only are they delicious, but potatoes are a great source of tryptophan (the sleep-inducing hormone) as well, and they also have an overall soothing effect that is beneficial both for your body and for your mind.

Top 7 Foods For Better Sleep At Night7. Relaxing Tea

Speaking of drinks before bed, milk and honey may be a delicious combination but some types of tea have a soft sedating effect that is perfect for stressed people who have trouble falling asleep. Peppermint, herbal tea or chamomile tea are three of the most popular types of tea that are known for their sleep-inducing effect
