About two per cent of the world's population suffer from excessive sweating which, no doubt, could be embarrassing- it stains clothes, and complicates business and social interactions. Where do you sweat? What do you do?

Hand sweating: Its intensity varies. This can be from just moisture on the hands to dripping wet. Excessive and uncontrolled hand sweating can affect a person on a functional, emotional, and social level. Even daily activities such as using computers, musical instruments, and driving can become a difficult task. Simple tasks such as opening a doorknob could be difficult too.

Foot sweating: Most people who have sweaty hands will also have sweaty feet and could be as severe as hand sweating. Here, shoes can be ruined, sandals cannot be worn, heels can be too difficult to wear, and foot odour / fungal infection is inevitable. Face sweating: Just like the above mentioned two, it does pose its own problem. Face is perpetually drenched in sweat and one has to keep up with the task of continually mopping sweat off your face.

Armpit sweating: Excessive sweating can happen at any time without any identified reason. Usually this sweating will not occur during sleep but during normal daily activities, anything can happen.

So, how do you combat and bring excessive sweating under control?

1.      Take your bath regularly, at least twice daily.

2.      Shave off hair from areas that prone to excessive sweating.

3.      Be a lover of light and airy clothing. Avoid thick clothes.

4.     Avoid enclosed areas and allow air-fan/air conditioner come in handy.

5.      Use strong-smelling deodorants/perfumes to keep odours in check. This should be only after taking a thorough bath.

6.      If your profession insists that you must wear socks, make generous use of foot powder to help absorb foot sweat and check odours. Remember to change your stockings regularly.

7.      Don't forget to change underwear too. It has to be regular, freshly washed and avoid repeating clothes.

8.      Your kitchen can be of help with the use of baking soda and essential oils mixed together and applied to the armpit.

9.      For extreme cases, see the doctor who may recommend oral medication, Botox or even surgery, depending on the severity of the sweat.
