27-Year Old Lagos Housemaid Mariam Acheme Invited Her Boyfriend to Rob Her Boss and Faked Her Kidnap!

November 26, 2012 – 27-yead old housemaid Mariam Acheme invited her boyfriend Dansu Akokran and another person to rob her boss.

Here is a statement from Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command Ngozi Braide: "On November 26, 2012, the housemaid invited her boyfriend to her boss' house when the madam had gone out. On getting to the house, the boyfriend and another person ransacked the entire house. They vandalised the doors and also stole all the valuables. The housemaid then padlocked the gate from outside and fled with them."

According to sources, when Acheme's boss arrived home, she discovered that Acheme and all of her valuables went missing. She immediately reported the incident to Bode Thomas Police Division.

According to Braide, someone called Acheme's boss and informed her that her housemaid, Acheme, had been kidnapped. She returned to the police station to report the development of the case.

"The madam told the police that some men called and said they had kidnapped the housemaid. The men asked for N5m and said if the money was not paid, they would not release her. The housemaid spoke to her 'madam' on the phone, crying and telling her that she was being tortured by the kidnappers and urged her boss to pay the ransom immediately. The Divisional Police Officer, Bode Ojajuni, immediately swung into action. Detectives at the station were able to establish contact with the kidnappers and urged them to collect N1m. The kidnappers then sent a bank account number which the money should be paid into," said Braide.

It was found out that the bank account number belongs to Prosper Tatou who works as a bricklayer. The policemen traced the owner through the bank account number and approached him. Tatou led the policemen to the hideout of the other suspects. The detectives were shocked when they saw that the housemaid was also in the compound.

Acheme denied cooperation with the kidnappers. According to her, she invited her boyfriend to visit her but she had no idea about his intentions. Akokran also denied the allegation and said that his friend, Femi, was the one who masterminded the whole thing.

PPRO apprehended the opportunity to warn all employers to be cautious in hiring domestic servants because crime cases that are similar to this one seem to be on the rise. He also said that it is necessaty for employers to register their domestic servants at the nearest police stations. It was discovered that the suspects were all Benin Republic nationals.
