Access Point Name (APN) of MTN, Glo, Airtel and Etisalat
The acronym APN has always been strange to some people especially the new internet modem users. However, if you have been browsing with any of the internet modems (locked or unlocked, If locked read How to Unlock ZTE Modems) APN should not be a new thing to you. APN for short simply means Access Point Name.
Judging from the name, you can see that it has to do with granting a user access to use the internet facility of a said network. For example, if you want to access the internet using MTN network via an MTN Fastlink or unlocked/universal modem, you must use a profile which has the access point name: web.gprs.mtnngeria.net. This is the key to letting you surf the net using MTN network.
On the other hand, if you wish to access the internet on your mobile phone, you will equally use or add the APN of the said network, failure to do so will result in your inability to connect successfully to the internet.
In this post, I will be listing for you the different Access Point Names of the various Nigerian internet providers. Let's have a look at them below:
APN of MTN : web.gprs.mtnngeria.net [Username = web, Password = web)
APN of Globacom : gloflat (mainly for data plans) [Username = flat, Password = flat)
APN of Globacom : glowap or glosecure (this deducts your airtime)
APN of Etisalat : etisalat [Username = blank, Password = blank)
APN of Zain : internet.ng.zain.com
APN of Airtel : internet.ng.airtel.com [Username = internet, Password = internet)
So far these are the Access Point Names of internet providers in Nigeria. To view it on your internet data modem, click Settings ==> Connection Configuration ==> View
The screenshot below shows the Access Point Name of Etisalat Nigeria on an Etisalat Easynet ZTE Modem:
As you can see under Profile Management, I have Etisalat and Airtel on an Etisalat modem which simply means that I had already unlocked the modem and is now a universal modem. The APN of globalcom isn't specified as those of the other service providers!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Anonymous, thanks for your comment. The APN of Glo is clearly stated on the post. It's not a link like others, Glo has two APNs. If you are configuring an internet modem the Glo APN is "gloflat" while for mobile browsing i.e wap the APN is "glowap"
